CGIA Awards

CGIA recognizes outstanding achievements in various aspects of geospatial technologies within California through its annual awards program, commemorating excellence in Geographic Information across the Golden State. Awards are open to any person in the State of California, and Nominations must relate to people, projects, or organizations which are located in California.

Award winners will be announced at a special event during the 2024 Esri User Conference in San Diego. This year is CGIA’s 30th anniversary, so the event will be a special celebration.

Winners will receive a coveted CGIA Award trophy and a one-year free membership with CGIA. The winner of the Student Award will also receive a cash prize of $750, and the runner-up will receive $250.

This year’s awards will be presented for the following categories:

  • Excellence & Innovation Award: Granted for the outstanding application of geospatial technology, representing innovative, elegant, or creative techniques for analysis, mapping, data management, or automation.
  • Coordination & Collaboration Award: Granted for the demonstration of collaborative development of geospatial data, approaches, or technologies within the state of California.
  • Student Award: Granted to the student whose project, application, or tool demonstrates an exemplary use of geospatial technologies.
  • Teaching Award: Granted to the geospatial educator, trainer, mentor, or practitioner who demonstrates extraordinary contribution to furthering geospatial education or mentorship in California.
  • Mapping & Visualization Award: Granted for any map, 3D model, website, infographic, or other visualization which demonstrates extraordinary insight, appealing aesthetics, use of geographic information, or technical approach.
