Nominations for the 2022 CGIA Awards are Now Open

Each year the California Geographic Information Association recognizes outstanding achievements in various aspects of GIS within California through its awards program. Awards are a great way to recognize your fellow GIS professionals and winners gain valuable GISP points! CGIA awards are open to any person in the State of California.

To encourage and promote student practices of GIS, this year we are proud to announce three student awards categories: one for associate degree/certificate students, one for 4-year college/university students, and one for graduate students.  Awards will be granted to the student whose project, application or tool best demonstrates innovation in the use of GIS technology.  Open to students who were enrolled as of the previous quarter/semester of the current award year (i.e. Fall Quarter/Semester 2021 for the 2022 awards). A scholarship award of $750 will be awarded to the 1st place winners in each category (associate, bachelor, and graduate) and $250 will be awarded for runner-up in each category.

CGIA will be seeking nominations for outstanding individuals and organizations in the following categories:

  • Student Awards: Granted to the students whose project, application or tool best demonstrates innovation in the use of GIS technology.  Submissions must be received by the awards nomination closing date.  A scholarship award of $750 will be awarded to the 1st place winners in the associate degree/certificate (1), 4-year college/university (1), and graduate (1) categories and $250 will be awarded for runner-up entries in each category as well.
  • Exemplary use of GIS: Granted for outstanding application of GIS technology representing innovative, elegant, or creative techniques for analysis, mapping, data management or automation.  The technology may be transparent to the end user and is not required to display map output.

All award winners receive a FREE 1-year membership to CGIA.

An award is an outstanding way of recognizing individuals in the GIS community for their efforts in the education, implementation and advancement of GIS.  Nominate a student, colleague, project, or program for a CGIA award on, or after, April 4, 2022 by going to the CGIA Nomination Page.
