Member Spotlight: Jaishankar Jayaraman

Jai Jayaraman's professional foundation is in geospatial technology. A Masters graduate in Remote Sensing and GIS, he entered the industry in the early 2000s as an Esri and ArcFM technical practitioner. Since then, he has contributed to enterprise GIS deployments across Local Government, Transportation, and Utilities. His project experience is global (India, Japan, the Middle East, and the United States). Early technical work included Esri/ArcFM implementations for facility and utility asset operations, large-scale Gas GIS deployments, and mapping architecture for a widely adopted Intelligent Transportation Solution platform for clients in North America.

Over the past decade, that foundation has anchored his work in enterprise deployments for North American electric utilities. A central thread has been the development of purpose-built capabilities for GIS data quality and governance assessment. These methodologies and tools measure and improve the trustworthiness of the as-built network model, electric circuit connectivity, and asset attribution. Where the underlying GIS data is sound, the operational systems that consume it — ADMS, EAM, work and asset management, outage management, load flow, capital planning, and field work orchestration — become materially more effective. Jai's current consulting continues in this vein. He is serving as Lead Functional Consultant on a tier#1 North American utility's Work and Asset Management transformation program. In parallel, his focus is on Geospatial AI — agentic workflows built for geospatial contexts, designed to be GIS-aware, standards-compliant, and secure with operational guard rails so that automation stays trustworthy in production utility settings. Current applications include Esri Utility Network migration, cloud ArcGIS Enterprise architecture, distribution design automation, and easement legal document preparation for utility capital project planning. Jai has served on the CGIA Board since 2025 and currently co-chairs the Advocacy Committee.
