We are pleased to announce a new job opportunity within the GIS Division of the Karuk Department of Natural Resources.
This position offers a unique chance to contribute to meaningful work within the Karuk Aboriginal Territory, located in the scenic Klamath mountains and along the Klamath and Salmon rivers. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting DNR Programs, project partners, and other Tribal departments by collecting, managing, analyzing, and mapping crucial spatial data. This work directly serves Tribal and Departmental objectives and values.
The role involves developing, maintaining, and mapping datasets for a diverse range of projects, including but not limited to:
- Collaborative fuels reduction project planning and implementation
- Forest inventory
- Native and invasive plant inventories and treatments
- Food Sovereignty initiatives
- Fish counts
- And more!
You will join a dynamic and collaborative environment, actively participating in co-creating datasets, systems, and collaborative tools that support important projects. A key aspect of this role is promoting and upholding the principles of Indigenous Data Sovereignty.
We are seeking detail-oriented individuals who are highly skilled (or highly trainable) and interested in working with the Tribe in this beautiful landscape. Candidates should be prepared to design, build, and problem-solve on a daily basis as we document our work and continue to build a world-class GIS program.
