CGIA Member Spotlight: Jacob Mark

Jacob is a Geospatial Analyst for Woolpert, based in Los Angeles. He initiated and leads the CA GIS Council’s Policy Advisory Workgroup and writes GIS Under the Dome, a digest of GIS-related legislative issues. He also presents a quarterly lunchtime legislative briefing for the GIS community. He is currently serving the CGIA Board as a representative for the private sector. He wants to further enable the sharing of GIS ideas and solutions between the public and private sectors.

Before California, Jacob resided in Indianapolis, IN where he worked for Indiana's Department of Natural Resources in the Division of Water. He spearheaded Indiana's efforts to update its Watershed Boundary Dataset. Prior to this, he worked for Schneider Geospatial as a GIS Support Technician. He first got his feet wet after undergrad when he interned with Jim Sparks, Indiana's GIO at the time. In the spring of 2021, Jacob received his Master of Applied Science in Spatial Analysis from Johns Hopkins University's School of Public Health.

Jacob enjoys hiking, cooking, reading, and learning. He strives to be involved in his communities - Jewish and GIS. He values helping others and doing good in the world. He looks forward to meeting more GIS Californians in person in the near future! Some of his past work can be found here. Connect with him on LinkedIn.
