Nominate a Colleague for a 2019 CGIA Award by May 17th

Nominations for the 2019 CGIA Awards are open! Submission deadline extended to May 17th! 

Each year the California Geographic Information Association recognizes outstanding achievements in various aspects of GIS within California through its awards program. Awards are open to any person in the State of California, and will be announced at the CGIA/SoCal URISA Social Event at the Esri User Group Conference (evening of Monday, July 8th) in San Diego, CA.

All award winners receive a FREE 1-year membership to CGIA.

Nominations for outstanding individuals and organizations in the following categories must be submitted on/before May 17th, 2019 (see below or here for more details about each category):

  • Best Student Paper
  • Exemplary Systems Award
  • Advancement of Collaboration Award
  • Outstanding Internet Application Award
  • Excellence in Education Award
  • Best Innovative Story Map

An award is an outstanding way of recognizing individuals in the GIS community for their efforts in the education, implementation and advancement of GIS.  Nominate a colleague, project, or program for a CGIA award by going to the CGIA Nomination Page.

Nominations must be submitted by May 17, 2019.

 

Best Student Paper 

Granted to honor a student who has made outstanding contributions in the promotion, innovation, and/or use of GIS technology.  Open to students who were enrolled as of the previous quarter of the current award year (Example: Fall Quarter/Semester 2018 for the 2019 awards).

A travel stipend of up to $500 will be awarded to attend the 2019 ESRI User Conference. The award can be used toward the registration fee (a must), hotel, and/or flight/gas. Receipts are required. The recipient must provide a written summary of his/her overall experience of the conference along with a brief review of the sessions attended no later than 1 month after attending the conference (emailed to chair@cgia.org).

Exemplary Systems Award

Granted for outstanding application of GIS technology representing innovative, elegant, or creative techniques. The technology may be transparent to the end user and is not required to display map output.

Advancement of Collaboration Award

Granted for outstanding inter-organization collaborative efforts in GIS. This award is granted for exemplary results from interorganizational standards adoption, data sharing, application deployment, or work process integration.

Outstanding Internet Application Award

Granted to the outstanding integration of GIS and web technologies demonstrating excellence in aesthetic presentation, functionality, ease of use, and overall user experience.

Excellence in Education Award

Granted to the educational institution that displays extraordinary approach, contribution, development or commitment to GIS education in California. Nominees will be judged on the basis of the breadth of courses offered, accessibility of classes, population served, technical facilities, and post-graduation support.

Best Innovative Story Map

Best innovative story map that is useful to the community and has excellent cartographic design.
