Next Generation 9-1-1 Working Group

Mission Statement:
The NG9-1-1 CGC WG seeks to:

  • Provide guidance to NG9-1-1 GIS Task Force
  • Assist in defining the standard addressing practices.
  • Assist in defining the framework schema for an NG9-1-1 Statewide Addressing Geodatabase.
  • Develop recommendations for the implementation, operation, maintenance, stewardship, and funding.
  • Partner to provide educational opportunities on related topics.
  • Serve as a conduit for collaboration between public, private, NGO and academic institutions for the successful implementation of the State’s NG911 GIS program

Vision Statement
Facilitating partnerships at the local level (at a GIS data creation level), can foster the largest impact on the implementation of California’s NG9-1-1 Program. Reducing the time for implementation, ensuring collaborative open data, and developing resources to ensure the safety of the people of California.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) National 911 Program working with Mission Critical Partners and both public and private sector 911 and GIS stakeholders initiated a project to assess the status of GIS for NG911 across the country and make recommendations for a nationwide GIS data-sharing system for NG911. The results of the project are summarized in four reports:

•    Geographic Information Systems Technology Current Status of Required Entities
•    Geographic Information Systems Technologies Partner Agencies and Organizations
•    Geographic Information Systems Technology National Strategy for GIS in NG911
