The California Geographic Information Association’s Community Forum (formerly known as the California GIS Council) is pleased to invite all members of the California GIS Community of Practice to attend the 3D Hydrography for California Forum on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. (PT) via Zoom.
Join us to learn about collaborations between the U.S. Geological Survey, the California Department of Water Resources, California State Universities – Chico and Northridge, and regional partnerships such as the Santa Cruz Mountain Stewardship Network. These efforts aim to modernize California’s portion of the national surface water mapping network.
About the USGS 3D Hydrography Program
The U.S. Geological Survey’s 3D Hydrography Program (3DHP) is a national initiative to create a modern, high-resolution hydrography dataset that supports water resource management, flood risk analysis, ecological studies, and emergency response. Built on quality elevation data from the 3D Elevation Program (3DEP), 3DHP provides a consistent, detailed representation of surface water features across the United States. This program is designed to replace the aging National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) and deliver improved accuracy and interoperability for a wide range of applications.
The first hour of presentations will be recorded and shared on the CGIA website after the event. The final 30 minutes will be dedicated to audience questions.
