CalGIS 2023 Workshop and Presentation Proposals – Due November 30, 2022

CalURISA and CGIA invite you to share your work using GIS and geospatial methods in all application areas and disciplines. As geospatial tools and technology have permeated our world, geospatial applications are present in all aspects of our lives ranging from “traditional” use in government, industry, and academia to emerging fields such as journalism, tourism, marketing, and many others.  Regardless of how you implement geospatial technology in your work, we encourage you to share. CalGIS provides a forum for GIS practitioners, from students to seasoned professionals, to share their experiences, lessons learned, and tips and tricks with colleagues across the state.

Please submit your proposal with this Survey: https://arcg.is/1fWnvu0

About Presentation Proposals

Call for Presentation Proposals - Due November 30, 2022

The 2023 Planning Committee welcomes the submission of complete sessions, individual presentations, mini-workshops, panel discussions, and lightning talks. These will be scheduled for either Tuesday, March 14 or Wednesday, March 15. We welcome topics of interest at all levels, from beginner to expert.  All proposals received will be reviewed and considered for the program.Presentation Format:

  • Complete session—Comprised of one subject covered by one or more presenters. The expectation is that the depth and complexity of the issue merits a longer time. This can be composed of one or multiple presenters to be arranged by the person submitting the proposal.  A complete session is 90 minutes in length.
  • Individual presentation—a single presentation that will be scheduled on its own. Each presenter is allotted approximately 25 minutes, including questions from the attendees.
  • Panel discussion —A panel is a 60–90-minute presentation encouraging interaction and discussion between the panelists and the audience. Panel presentations should include at least three panelists, all speaking on aspects of a particular topic. The names of the moderator and panelists should be specified in the proposal.
  • Mini-workshop—A 90-minute seminar, forum, or tutorial presented by an individual or small team on a particular topic. Topics could range from a technical “how-to” to policy and governance.
  • Lightning talk – An 8-minute fast-paced short-form talk; slides are optional.
