Jim Sparks, Director of Geoinformatics, The Polis Center, & former Geospatial Information Officer, State of Indiana

Jim Sparks has spent most of his career working with geospatial information.  His experience has come through positions as a construction surveyor, cartographer, parcel mapper, and consultant.  Jim has worked in county government, state government, higher education, and the private sector.

In October 2007, the Governor appointed Jim as Indiana’s first Geographic Information Officer with a statutory mission to facilitate the development, maintenance, and distribution of comprehensive statewide geographic data. In March 2018, Jim became the Director of Geoinformatics at the Polis Center at Indiana University, IUPUI campus. Since its inception in 2000, Jim has been actively involved with the Indiana Geographic Information Council, serving as President of the Board of IGIC in 2019 and now as Past President on the Executive Committee.   Jim is also a member of the National States Geographic Information Council (NSGIC).

Christina Boggs-Chavira, Engineering Geologist, California Department of Water Resources

Christina Boggs-Chavira, PG is an engineering geologist with the California Department of Water Resources in the Sustainable Groundwater Management Office. Christina has been active with NorCal URISA, and URISA International for years, former president of NorCal URISA, former CAB Chair for URISA International, former CalGIS conference chair, formerly active with the California Mapping Coordination Committee, former chair of the California State Government GIS User Group. Christina enjoys helping people work together better, bluegrass, traveling with her husband, and volunteering with the deaf community.
