The California GIS Council is pleased to share the news that our Council Chair Carlos Isaac Cabrera has accepted the newly-created position with the California Department of Technology (CDT) as the State Geographic Information Officer and Manager of Data and Geospatial Services. He began serving in this capacity on April 27, 2020.

Isaac most recently served as Geographic Information System Administrator for Contra Costa County, and prior to that served in GIS coordination and management positions with the Counties of Merced and Madera, according to his LinkedIN profile at https://www.linkedin.com/in/cicabreragis/. He studied Technical Geography, GIS, Information Technology, and Computer Science at CSU Fresno and holds the Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) designation by the GIS Certification Institute

Referencing the California Department of Human Resources recruitment announcement for this position, Isaac will build and lead a team at CDT to develop, maintain, and support web and cloud-based technologies and services including the Calfornia Geoportal (https://gis.data.ca.gov/) and the Open Data Portal (https://data.ca.gov/). His responsibilities also include organizing and leading state communities of practice and supporting strategic data initiatives sponsored by the State Chief Data Officer Joy Bonaguro. The GIO will also outreach and collaborate with the state’s geospatial and data communities to understand critical issues impacting the state and plan, deliver and manage common technology platforms and shared services.

The California GIS Council is ready and eager to work with Isaac in his dual role as Council Chair and State GIO!
