{"id":1008,"date":"2019-08-15T07:34:47","date_gmt":"2019-08-15T14:34:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cgia.org\/cagiscouncil\/?p=1008"},"modified":"2019-08-15T07:34:47","modified_gmt":"2019-08-15T14:34:47","slug":"calgis-2020-call-for-presentations-and-workshops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cgia.org\/cagiscouncil\/2019\/08\/15\/calgis-2020-call-for-presentations-and-workshops\/","title":{"rendered":"CalGIS 2020 Call for Presentations and Workshops"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The California URISA Chapters and the California Geographic Information Association (CGIA) are pleased to invite workshop and presentation proposals for CalGIS 2020&nbsp;February 9-11, 2020&nbsp;at the Hilton Long Beach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CalGIS 2020 educational program is developed through a peer review of submissions received.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Workshop Proposals:&nbsp;<\/strong>Full-day and half-day workshops are invited at all levels of expertise, from beginner to expert.&nbsp; Learning objectives and takeaways&nbsp;are important components of proposals, along with a course outline, any pre-requisites or knowledge required, and instructor biographies. Some suggested workshop topics include:Data Quality Management\/Metadata\/Best Practices<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Leadership and Management<\/li><li>Professional Development &amp; Certification<\/li><li>Open Source or Commercial Geospatial Applications<\/li><li>Ensuring Map and App Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities<\/li><li>Use of UAVs\/Drones<\/li><li>Cartography<\/li><li>URISA Certified Workshops<\/li><li>Other topics of interest to the community<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Workshop&nbsp;proposals are due on or before&nbsp;<strong>September 23, 2019<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Presentation Proposals:&nbsp;<\/strong>The agenda is developed by reviewing submissions received through the Call for Presentations. The 2020 Planning Committee welcomes the submission of individual papers, complete sessions, mini-workshops, and panel discussions.&nbsp;We welcome topics of interest at all levels, from beginner to expert.&nbsp; All proposals received will be reviewed and considered for the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Presentation Format:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Complete session<\/strong>\u2014Comprised of one subject covered by one or more presenters. The expectation is that the depth and complexity of the issue merits the longer time. A complete session is 90 minutes in length.<\/li><li><strong>Panel discussion<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2014A panel is a 60-90 minute presentation which encourages interaction and discussion between the panelists and the audience. Panel presentations should include at least three panelists all speaking on aspects of a particular topic.<\/li><li><strong>Mini-workshop<\/strong>\u2014A 90-minute seminar, forum, or tutorial presented by an individual or small team on a particular topic. Topics could range from a technical \u201chow-to\u201d to policy and governance.<\/li><li><strong>Single presentation<\/strong>\u2014individual presentation that will be scheduled on its own.
