The California Geographic Information Association (CGIA) is thrilled to announce its attendance at the 1st California Native American Tribal GIS Summit 2025, co-hosted by CA Tribal GIS and the CA State Water Resources Control Board. This exciting event, themed "Honoring Place, Empowering Nations," will focus on how GIS can be used for natural resource management and protecting cultural landscapes.
The summit will take place on July 31 and August 1, 2025, at the California Environmental Protection Agency Building in Sacramento, CA. This summit offers both in-person and virtual participation, featuring presentations on:
• The state of GIS in CA Tribal communities
• Data Sovereignty and Governance
• Environmental Stewardship, Land Development and Management, and Climate Adaptation
• Cultural Preservation, ITEK (Indigenous Traditional Ecological Knowledge), and Cultural Ecology
• Education, Workforce Development and Youth Engagement
• GIS Software and Tools
