Seeking Educators and Nonprofits

Are you a geospatial or GIS expert who is currently affiliated with the Education or Nonprofit sectors?

CGIA is currently seeking nominations for new board members. In order to maintain cross-industry representation, our Board of Directors consists of 4 individuals from each of the following constituencies:

  • Federal Government, State, and Tribal Government Agencies
  • Local Government Agencies
  • Institutions of Higher Learning, Professional Societies, and Not-for-Profit Organizations
  • Private Sector Companies

We have openings in all of these constituencies, plus an additional constituency for Representatives of the Membership At Large. But of all of these, we have the most openings in the third constituency, Institutions of Higher Learning, Professional Societies, and Not-for-Profit Organizations. If you are affiliated with any kind of academic institution, professional society, or nonprofit, you qualify for this constituency, and we would love to have you on board!

In CGIA's thirty-plus year history, we have evolved from seeking federal grants to improve the state and provision of geographic information in California, to broader advocacy and Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) efforts. Recent key initiatives include advocating for the institution of a state Geographic Information Officer, efforts to map professionals and the statewide SDI, and development of a notice of cautions for geospatial professionals.

If you agree that these are valuable initiatives and want to support them in a tangible way, as well as strengthening your professional network and influence within the profession, please consider nominating yourself to join the Board. The nomination form is linked below. If you miss the nomination window (it closes this Sunday) or prefer to speak to the Chair first, please email chair@cgia.org.

More information about the structure of our Board is available here, with current Board Members listed here.
