Cy Smith, Geospatial Information Officer, State of Oregon

Cy Smith has been the State GIO in Oregon since 2000. He is a past President of the Urban Regional Information Systems Association and the National States Geographic Information Council, and was the founding Chair of the Coalition of Geospatial Organizations. Cy has been a member of the National Geospatial Advisory Committee since 2016. He was the State GIS Coordinator in Kansas in the early 1990s. He worked closely with Senator Hatch’s office to draft and enact the Geospatial Data Act of 2018. Amy Nelson, Deputy Geospatial Information Officer, U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT)

Amy Nelson is the Deputy GIO at the U.S. Department of Transportation. She manages US DOT’s geospatial response during disasters, leads DOT’s implementation of federal geospatial regulations and guidance including the Geospatial Data Act, is the lead author of US DOT’s GIS Strategic Plan, manages US DOT’s geospatial community, and assists with the National Address Database and Work Zone Data Exchange projects.

Ms. Nelson has fifteen years of service in the federal government, including thirteen years as the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Administration’s GIS Manager. She holds a B.A. in Geography from the University of Mary Washington and an M.A. in GIS from Clark University.
