This webinar will be first in a series of monthly CalGIS Webinars leading up to the 20th annual CalGIS conference in Monterey California April 14-16, 2014. To start off the webinar series we have invited two guests:

James Fee is known to many in the geospatial industries as a blogger (http://www.spatiallyadjusted.com/) and as the keeper of the blog aggregator Planet Geospatial (www.planetgs.com), a daily stop for many in the industry. James is a past keynote speaker at CalGIS and hosts his own chat with guests “Hangouts with James Fee”.

James will be discussing his background in GIS and giving his insights on the state of the industry and the directions he sees it heading. We will save some time for questions from the audience.

Prashant Singh (Bio from localdata.com) kindled his interest in technology for citizens and communities through a Code for America Fellowship. Before that, he created consumer television products at Microsoft for the Xbox, phones, and set-top boxes. He received his BS and MS degrees in electrical engineering from Rice University.

Prashant will be giving a quick intro to localdata.com and discuss some of the bigger picture items surrounding spatial data in an open environment. Localdata began as a 2012 Code for America project with the City of Detroit and continues to be an open source project. The code is on GitHub and their mobile app is built on HTML5, JavaScript, and Leaflet, and the backend uses Node.js, MongoDB, and PostGIS.

Hope to see you there.
