Senate Bill S.1253 Introduced – Geospatial Data Act of 2017

This bill was introduced in the Senate on 5/25/2017 to "improve the coordination and use of geospatial data". The lead sponsor of the Geospatial Data Act (S.1253) is Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and the co-sponsors are Senators Mark Warner (D-VA), Dean Heller (R-NV), and Ron Wyden (D-OR).

One major impact of this bill, if passed, is that it would require that GIS and mapping services fall under the 1972 Brooks Act requiring those service be limited to licensed architects, engineers, and surveyors.
